As purified as the water of nature, the most authentic nutrient out of mother earth

The annual cultivation continuously supports the sustainability of soil. Mr. Chu harvests the rice crop named Kaohsiung 145 with the water from River Ann-Non, then patiently mills and dries the rice in perfect moisture.

Tracing back all the visits to the farmers, we realize that every delicious fodder has its meant-to-be birthplace and a guardian who treasures it with diligence and care.

For years, whenever we visit Hua-Tung, we always go by Yi-Lan and feel the significant seasonal change on Lanyang Plain. The farmers in Yilan always show their hospitality by sharing their crop products.

If you still remember what is called an alluvial fan, then you can witness a majestic one made by the Lanyang River which starts from NanHu Moutain. This platform is shaped as a beautiful classic fan, it was made of the accumulated fertile dirt washed out of the mountain. The fertility attracted farmers for generations and built the village named Sanshing.

When we first met Mr. Chu, we were surprised by his prudent manner which is different from his forthright voice over the phone. Over the times we consulted him about the weather of Sanshing also the experiences on cultivation and water conservancy, his eyes showed the curve of the spike of rice and became milder. The virtue value of annual cultivation comes from lesser fertilizer and stable harvest in response. The winner of the year doesn’t represent the sustainability of life circles and natural resources. All the decent farmers have their prides when carrying the solid steps for the appropriateness: In July, they reorganize the farm ridges and fertilize the soil with rice stems left from the previous harvest; In August and September, they irrigate the farm and manage the water conservancy; In cool October, they drain the ridges and plough the soil to remove the weed, then let the mother nature cultivate the earth in Winter for the new beginning in upcoming Spring time.

The earth honestly reflects what it has, so do our taste buds. We were all eager to know where it came from when we first had Kaohsiung 145. It is such well-stacked and textural to meet the satisfaction even it’s cold. In a short time, we visited Sanshing again for the whole story.

Look over the surroundings, the best hints came from the well-planned ponds and ditches for irrigation. Mr. Chu utilized the natural slope of landscape to lead the water from An-Non creek to the fields, and drained the excessive water to Luo-Dong creek. An-Non creek carries a lot of fertile soil when rains, and it cultivates the corps on this land with natural nutrients. The dirty creek brings the most purified message from the omniscient above, and delivers the best rewards through the rice.

The secret to the taste: Nature !
